8.0.1 allows a LotusScript (and java) developer to automate the embedded Lotus Symphony editors using the UNO API that OpenOffice.org built and Symphony inherited. You do this via OLE/COM. It also only works on Windows.
This is not a native LotusScript API for Lotus Symphony. I can tell you that IBM has heard that request loud and clear, but it is a more long term item.
I gave a presentation on Automating Lotus Symphony and OpenOffice.org at Lotusphere. You can get the slides and demo files here.
My suggestion to you if you are starting out: play with Notes to OpenOffice.org first. It is much easier to find resources and play. Then move your code to Lotus Symphony. And make sure you only have one of those installed on your machine .. the last one installed will get automation hook. And watch out for the OpenOffice.org launcher that sits in your Windows Task tray . it plays havoc.
